Newest Update!!

Whooooo last one??? Well this week was a great week! I think that everyone's presentations went very well! Also, I handed in my final paper to Julie so there's not much more to say about that! Whoooooooooooooooo IT'S OVER!

Capstone UpdAAAte

So, we all know how big this week was with our presentations!! I am quite pleased that they are over, but they turned out being pretty successful. I made a poster for OSCAR about my capstone and got some really good feedback about that.

So, now I get to continue writing and complete my main narrative essay for this project. This will be what I am handing in (rough draft by the end of this week and full draft finals week) for my capstone grade.

But, this project is not going to come to a halt. I got a job offer at a farm for the summer for 2-3 days a week. I plan on making this experience worth while and I plan to journal and have my relationship to the land grow. Over the summer, too, I plan to create  more visual/journalistic responses to my narrative.

Exciting!!

update

So today I had planned on working on lots of stuff but because of jfj  I haven't been able to really focus on my work for classes. But Hanna and I fixed the squirt bottle problem so we should be all set for tomorrow! I honestly am excited for the jfj to be over so I can put all my attention on school work. But Dr. McEntarfer and I are meeting Monday to go over what I should say in my speech! And she taught me how to code my qualitative data so I have my research done (unless I want to do my observation study)! I can't believe school is winding down and all the work I still have to do! Hope everyone else isn't drowning in work like I am but that's wishful thinking! See you all tomorrow morning :)

cap

Super stressed about this symposium just because this is the busiest week of my life it seems. Capstone is going well. Tons and tons of information, it is just organizing it that I am struggling with.

I am working on a title currently and want it to be really catchy and interesting. Meeting with Jan this Monday to go over the presentation. She is going to have me present for her. I am super nervous.

I am continuously writing my paper and hoping that it all works out. The topic is very exciting for me.

UpDaTe FoR tHiS weEk

This week I met with my mentor with a 9 page rough draft and she really liked it. We talked about maybe discussing how different races and sexualities are protecting themselves in comparison to the heterosexual relationships that I have focused on so far. We set a date for when my final paper is due which is May 7th, but I am trying to get it to her much sooner than that. And thats about it. Basically next week I hope to finish my writing and editing and getting my paper to her by next Friday.

CApstOne

I've been looking at most of my background information this week and it has been helping me set up my power point. I'm currently looking at gay men stereotypes to compare them to lesbian ones. I would like to see the differences between the stereotypes, and understand what is valued according to these stereotypes. Another subject I've recently been looking into are the different lesbian stereotypes that are represented in Television shows. These stereotypes on screen just perpetuate our idea of lesbians, whether they are positive or negative. I hope to tie all these aspect into my presentation.

CAPstoneeeee

So, this project is developing into something really amazing. Coming from a topic where I thought there was no way to connect the two (gender and agriculture) has developed into this amazing narrative that is so much more important than people imagine.
I continuously find more and more sites that show the progress that women in agriculture are accomplishing including ones in Chautauqua County!!!!

I am cracking down now. I have started writing the narrative that will go along with my project. When this is roughly done, I will draw some info from it to present at the Symposium. After the narrative is done, I will begin to provide more focus on the threads and include multimedia aspects of my presentation.

I am so excited!
Nothing has changed much since Tuesday's class expect the book that my mentor gave me is harder to get through than I expected but the examples are helpful as I read. Hopefully I'll be able to do my observation research on Friday when the students at B&G club go to the playground. I can't believe our symposium is coming up so fast! I have to begin making up flash cards and practicing them, I think I want to try and memorize it the best I can. Sam starting to write the paper is motivating me to start also haha so that will become something that I look at every night and try to work on it for an hour or so. It's going to be difficult to push myself to do work when the weather is getting so nice out! I think coffee and tea are going to be my best friends until this semester is over. Enjoy the travel day Monday! See you all Tuesday.

THIS WEEKKK

So this week has been very stressful with the JFJ and all, but I have focused a lot on my paper this week! As of today, (Tuesday) I already have six pages written! WHOOOOO! I decided just to free write for tonight and go back and fix things in the morning with a fresh eye. It is coming along a lot easier once I began writing. (SO EVERYONE START WRITING SO YOU STOP STRESSING!) I am hoping to finish my entire paper over Easter break to give it it Julie on the 22nd when we meet and then next week I want to make my powerpoint presentation up, but first I want to finish my paper so that my presentation goes a little more smoothly. But so far so good!

Capstone Update

I'm aware of how late this post is but I figured I'd post it anyways. Lately it's been a bit difficult to keep up with life and everything that's in it. But the good news is that I'm finally giving out my survey's this week and will be collecting the data by the end. I hope to hit many of the clubs and pretty much anyone I can get to do it. The survey is specific to females. It' asks about their sexual identity or orientation. It goes on to ask questions questions like how do you define the term lesbian? Do you think that Fredonia is an LGBT friendly campus? I also asked what kind of lesbian terms individuals may or may not be familiar with, and their job is to circle the lesbian terms on the survey that they have heard of. Some of them were one's that I hadn't even heard of like:

Boi
For lesbians, a boi is a woman who is biologically female, but has a boyish appearance or presentation. A boi may be lesbian identified or s/he may be trans identified. For gay men a boi is a gay man who is boyish or young in appearance or identity.

Or

Blue Jeans Femme
A Blue Jean Femme is a lesbian who identifies as femme, or feminine, but prefers jeans and more casual clothing to dresses and skirts.

There were many more but these were the one's that I was the least familiar with. I also want to look into why lesbian labels seem to be based of superficial aspects like clothing and makeup?

Week 11 Update!

Hi everyone! I can defiantly say that the biggest struggle for me this week was keeping up with all the assignments I had and keeping in mind of upcoming projects as well. I am getting stressed thinking about all the work that has to be done and we only have less than a month of school left! Research wise, this week it took the back burner of importance unfortunately. I was going to meet with Dr. McEntarfer on Friday but I woke up with a fever so I rescheduled Monday. I want to show her the written up pre and post test that are completed along with the research articles I'm using for my introduction. My supervisor for my internship is also having me conduct Hemingway surveys and she said I could use the info for my research too! I wasn't able to get to the observation study because I haven't had a good opportunity to watch the kids interact (I'm waiting until they can go to the playground). I'm hoping after this week I can really focus most of my attention on my research paper.

Capstone Update Galore

So, I have been freaking out quite a bit about my capstone as of lately. But, I am feeling a lot better after my meeting with Jan yesterday.

What my next step to do is:

How do we talk about the impact of gender on agriculture in Chautauqua County over the past 100 years: develop a roughly 5-page narrative that addresses that broad question, and integrates the different sections you have researched.

After that I am going to do:

Once you get that integrated narrative snapshot, then you can determine the shape of the project as a whole, what form it will take, whether each topic needs to have the same form/medium or whether a variety tells the story better? Once you have that, then you can figure out what you want to use as the presentation for the WGST colloquium.

I feel so so so much more organized and actually getting into the process of writing and prepping for the project to be presented at the symposium coming up.

I am excited to see where this takes me.

Updateeeee

This week was good! I have an outline for my paper and all of my sources that I need. So writing should go smoothly next week. Also, I had a program last night in Alumni Hall to teach the girls about FredASSIST and how to be assertive about their sex lives! We had an informational powerpoint as well as goodie bags and hand outs! It was realllyyyy fun! :) We actually got a lot of girls interested in signing up for FredASSIST and it was very educational for them!

This weeks update!

Hi everyone, this past week I wasn't able to get my observation done :( But hopefully tomorrow I can complete it so I can show Dr. McEntarfer this Wednesday. What's been difficult about conducting my research is the fact that I have to go with the flow of the club. I don't have the authority to take the participants out of basic club activities that they have to be present in, and sometimes these activities take up most of the time that I have put aside for doing my research. I really just have to wait for the best timing to do things with my participants. Also I am in the process of seeing if some of the kids at the club can come to the Justice Jog! I will print out a poster to put on the doors of the club so the community can see it too! See you all Tuesday!

I have no idea what number post this is, but the research is forever interesting. There are so many different lesbian stereotypes that I would have never thought. For instance there are different subgroups even on my own rugby team. There are the biddies, butches, athletic lesbians, straight girl lesbians, etc. It's all very confusing but yet makes sense. Individuals choose there identification...obviously. But why do we generalize these identifications so much? Do we really believe in these general identities...or is it just easier for the public to categorize with them. In my personal opinion its easier for people to use these identifications to demean lesbians. Making this group of individuals less of who they actually are. Idk just a thought....Gretchen wieners OUTTTTTT!!!!!
