RGT!

The experience of RGT being here in Fredonia was insightful and increasingly impacting. She created discourse around topics that I only know some about and I feel quite informed after having discussions with her, listening to her lecture as well as having dinner with her and others after the lecture.

"Disability is everywhere if you know where to look for it," said RGT. Disability is something that does not get talked about enough. When it is talked about, it is most commonly shaped as something negative or that those with disabilities are loosing cherishing things. It was interesting when RGT talked about the stories of various individuals who had children who has disabilities. They noted that their lives are not a waste and they aren't missing anything. They live a wonderful and happy life interacting with their families.

RGT talked about how people constantly think the value of life for those with disabilities is diminished compared to "normal" people's lives. RGT reiterated with various stories how this is not true. We gain from disability, not lose; however, we do lose if disabilities were nonexistent.

She mentioned the idea that the "shape and function of bodies come into conflict with the shape and stuff of the world." This, she said, to be true instead of the reverse.

Overall, this experience was unforgettable. RGT was such a wonderful guest for the WGST program.
