First Post!

Hello Everyone!

I hope all of your research is going well. So far, I fell pretty good about my research. I had a lot of time over break to speak to Janine, one of the co-founders of Empower Girls Buffalo, and my sister, Courtney, who just started working for them last Spring. I was really nervous about this project at first, but after going to a couple Empower Girls Buffalo workshops and understanding how the program works, I feel much more comfortable starting my research. Janine has also been a great person to work with, she is so helpful in responding to any questions I have for her about the program.

I think that for now I am just going to focus on breaking down the many issues that young girls face as they are entering middle school. These years are very important in a young girl's life. After working closely with the girls in Courtney's group, I have learned that these girls are already starting to have an image of how they should and shouldn't act according to society's standards. I am planning on putting together a survey for Janine, Michelle and Courtney about the differences they notice among the girls from the beginning of these workshops to the very end.
