Well for right now I know that I would like to focus my research around the self-esteem of young women. There are many different aspects I would like to bring into my research. For right now it's a lot of random ideas that are coming to mind. I would like to incorporate the residence in my dorm, and possibly use them in a human study. Right now the theme for my dorm is supposed to promote equality, empowerment, diversity, and self-confidence. Hopefully I can use the theme for some of my research. Another idea that were thrown around during our first meeting was interviewing some of the girls in the my dorm. I possibly may add some different dynamics like the affects of being trans in an all girls dorm.
Another major aspect to my research is how the media distorts the female image, and how this affects women's self-image. I've been comparing an contrasting the Dove Real Beauty campaign to Victoria's campaign. It's been very interesting to see the differences that I have come across with each campaign. I hope to use many pop culture references in my research, especially if I am permitted to do interviews with some of the young women in my dorm. I will be emailing Bill Boerner this weekend about being my advisor for the project. I'm excited to see everyone else's progress with their research in the next few months.
