This week was super progressive. I met with Bill Boerner this week and it was wonderful. I described my idea of studying the young girls self-esteems in my dorm. He also gave me a few other ideas like using programs, and boards to help my research. It was also great to find out that he has spent his entire college career as an RA. So basically he is the perfect advisor for this project. We compared our experiences as RA's and identifying as queer individuals in a heteronormative environment. To be honest it was really refreshing to talk to someone who seemed to know where I was coming from.
On another note though I see some dilemmas with my research in the future. For instance I'm not sure If I will get cleared to be able to use my residence and human subjects or how I will get around some of the rules that are already in place. Also I'm still don't know how all of my point that I want to research are going to connect. So I guess we will see!!!!
Hey Gretchen! I would talk to Dr. Zevenbergen to know if you need to ask the psych board for permission. What rules are you concerned that will inflict on your project?
ReplyDeleteHi Gretchen,
ReplyDeleteI believe you do not need to get IRB approval for human subjects if you do not plan to publish your research, but you may want to double check this with Dr. Boerner or another professor who conducts this type of research (see Kate's suggestion).
